Gaining from Your Old Stuff
Remodeling or redesigning your home can be costly as you may need to replace some of the things in your household such as furniture and old appliances as well as you may need to renovate some parts of your home depending on the extent of the change you need.
There is a way for you to earn some money out of the things you won’t be using anymore to add up to your budget for your home improvement project. This is through putting them on a yard sale. As there are many people nowadays who tend to purchase used or pre-owned items to save some money, there is a chance that some of your neighbors will be interested in some of your things. Sort your belongings. Determine the things that you won’t be using anymore such as old clothes or clothing that doesn’t fit on you or your family anymore, an old appliance that still works but you are intending on replacing for a newer model, lamps or other decorations that would not go with the design you intend on your new house look.
Put price tags on the items you want to sell but make sure that the prices are reasonable and affordable so that your neighbors cannot resist buying some. Bear in mind that even though you are selling the things that used to mean so much for you, their sentimental value doesn’t change the fact that they are still used and not brand new.
Outdoor Face Lift
As today’s economy faces many crises, people tend to think of ways to save money as well as earn some to survive the continuous price hike. Although the price of almost everything available in the market seems to increase at a rapid rate, this doesn’t mean that you have to postpone your desire of exterior home improvement on a later and indefinite time.

There are ways to change or improve the appearance of your house exterior without having to spend so much. One of the easiest, fastest and most affordable ways of changing the way your house exterior looks is by means of repainting. You’ll be surprised on how a simple change in color can affect the appearance of your house. You can also add a glamorous look on it by adding up lighting on your house exterior. Carefully planning on the location of the lights can make your house looking more expensive especially when the lightings accentuate the good features of your exterior.
Planting some ornamental plants in your front lawn or around your house is also an inexpensive way to beautify your property. Choose a combination of ornamental plants that bear colors that look good together. It is advisable that you also keep your front lawn well maintained. It doesn’t take a genius or a professional landscaper to achieve a good looking lawn, only a responsible owner.
Avoiding Home Improvement Catastrophe
As many people or home owners tend to change the look of their homes and interior decorations after some time or when they are already tired of it, most of them commit huge mistakes of starting and finishing a project only to discover that it doesn’t suit the design or theme that they want to have in their homes. Some of them also tend to start a project and end up having an unsatisfactory result or even tend to find the project hard to do and stop working on it leaving the unfinished job to professionals. Thus, home owners who commit these mistakes also end up spending more money than what they already planned on spending.
Avoiding a big waste of money and time in remodeling or redesigning your home can be done with just a simple task: do the work only if you are qualified to do it. If you are not good in designing, seek advice from professionals. If you’re not good in installation or repair, hire someone who can do it. This will save you from the frustration of doing the job yourself only to find out in the end that you need a professional help.
Another way to avoid committing huge home improvement mistakes is to not touch the things that don’t really need changing. If your kitchen is still okay and still looks good and functional, you don’t need to remodel or have it renovated. Perhaps it is just a matter of rearranging things in it that will give it a newer look.
Clearing your Closet from Clutter
A closet is one of the places and spaces in our homes that have high tendency of being cluttered. Especially for people who have busy day to day schedules, we all rush to find things to wear and use for the day inside our closets and seem not having enough time to put the things that we won’t be using on the same spot where we get them. As de-cluttering a closet can be such a drag, there are things we can do to make this easier and more fun.

When the need to majorly organize your closet for the first time or after a few years or months comes, it is better is you have some extra time to spare as the task can take you a little longer. You have to take everything from your closet and put all of them in a place where you can take time to inspect each of them, like on top of your bed. Pick the clothes that you usually wear and set it aside from the ones that you haven’t worn since last year or a couple of months ago.
Inspect your old clothes or the clothes that you haven’t tried on for a long time to see if there are any damages. If those clothes are still good set them aside but do not mix them with the ones you usually wear. If you haven’t worn a dress or suit for a long time, there is a chance that you won’t be using it anymore even if you think it is still good when you know that you still have your current clothes to choose from. Consider putting your old clothes on a yard sale, this way, you can earn money at the same time, save more closet space.
Natural Pest Control
Mice and rats can be so pesky to have in the house. This is the reason why they are considered pests. They tend to eat though foods stored in the cupboards, chew in almost everything they can including our clothes, woods and some other parts of the house. Worst, they tend to be the carriers of some diseases. Leptospirosis is one of the diseases know to be brought by mice and rats. This disease can be obtained when water, which is contaminated by animal urine such as rats and mice enter the human body through breaks in the skin such as a wound, or through the eyes and with other mucous membranes.
Although not everybody knows this, getting rid of rat and mice infestations can be eco-friendly. This is fortunate for people who don’t want to result to buying rodent poisons or setting up traps to kill the rats and mice. Simply by planting varieties of mint family plants in your garden, you can create a natural rodent barrier for your house. You can also put some sprigs of fresh spearmint or peppermint inside your cupboard or in places you suspect that mice frequent. The smell of the sprigs will deter the rodents.
